Santa Cruz de Tenerife 1 Apr. (Press Europa) –

The initiative to protect the Tejita has addressed a letter to the Minister of Ecological Transition, Sara Aagesen, urging her to travel to Tenerife to observe the “irreversible damage” inflicted by the construction projects of the Hotel de la Tejita and the tourist development of the area.

In this regard, it highlights that the “systematic disregard” of local and regional authorities now necessitates a “national intervention.”

Furthermore, it cautions that the postponement of judicial proceedings to enforce existing laws is “enabling” the developers to proceed with their “unlawful” projects that inflict “irreparable” harm on the environment.

“This situation is unacceptable, and should a political resolution not be found, it will warrant submitting a series of complaints against Spain and the EU to the Aarhus (UN) committee,” they state.

The initiative asserts that these two undertakings are “completely contrary” to the Ministry’s policies for ecological transition and demographic challenges and urges the involved institutions to take responsibility and ensure the full enforcement of both national and EU legislation.
