Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 31 Mar. (Europa Press) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife, via the ‘Barrios for Employment’ initiative from the Insular Foundation for Training, Employment and Business Development (FiFede), aims to assist in the labour integration of over 2,000 individuals in 2025.

This was disclosed during a press conference convened on Monday to present the outcomes of the 2024 edition.

The event was presided over by the Cabildo president, Rosa Dávila; alongside the Minister of Employment and Education, Efraín Medina; the Minister of Social Action, Águeda Fumero; the CEO of Simpromi, Adal García; and the Manager of the Insular Foundation for Training, Employment and Business Development (FiFede), Elena de la Guardia, who spoke on behalf of the involved entities.

Rosa Dávila expressed her gratitude to all organisations involved in the programme and acknowledged the contributions of former Cabildo de Tenerife president, Carlos Alonso, “who foresaw ten years ago that tailored pathways needed to be created for society’s most vulnerable individuals, and that this required the engagement of the community as a whole.”

Furthermore, the island’s president described ‘neighbourhoods for employment’ as one of the most impactful instruments at the council’s disposal to lessen inequalities, combat social exclusion, and foster a more equitable and unified society.

Additionally, Dávila noted, “Barrios for Employment has played a significant role in helping Tenerife achieve a historic employment rate of below 12%, a figure that reflects collective effort, quality work, and a steadfast commitment to employment, because when we discuss employment, we are not just referring to figures or statistics; we are speaking of individuals, dignity, stability, self-esteem, and futures.”

Efraín Medina, for his part, acknowledged the “immense effort invested over the past decade,” which has been directed towards supporting five thousand individuals and successfully integrating over 2,000 into the workforce.

Elena de la Guardia presented statistics relating to the programme’s performance, revealing that last year, a total of 4,921 individuals were served.

In terms of labour placements, 1,537 individuals (903 women, 633 men, and 1 non-binary person) were successfully integrated, marking the best outcome in the ten years since the project’s inception.

Out of the 4,921 individuals served, a total of 4,481 received guidance.

The organisations executing the programme include Cáritas Diocesana de Tenerife, the Red Cross, the Don Bosco Foundation, the General Foundation of the University of La Laguna, and the Insular Society for the Promotion of People with Disabilities (Sinpromi).

This initiative is coordinated by the Insular Foundation for Training, Employment and Business Development (FiFede), an entity under the jurisdiction of the Cabildo.
