Santa Cruz de Tenerife 31 Mar. (Europa Press) –
Various departments within the Santa Cruz City Council are currently preparing for the organisation of ‘Armed Forces Day’, which is scheduled to take place on June 7 along Maritime Avenue in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Following the confirmation last November by the Chief of the General Staff of Defence, Teodoro E. López, to the city mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, that the invitation extended by the municipal council had been accepted for the principal events of this celebration to occur in the Chicharrera city, the different municipal departments, in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence and the Chief of the General Staff, have been diligently working for that day.
As a result, the military parade will be complemented by a packed programme of activities, which will also be held in the vicinity of Maritime Avenue, including static and dynamic material displays, a military music gathering, and exhibitions of personnel and equipment.
The ‘Armed Forces Day’ will bring about alterations in traffic and circulation around both the parade and the preceding activities, which will be communicated well in advance to ensure that local residents, as well as visitors, have alternative mobility options during the days the avenue is impacted, as detailed by the City Council in a statement.
The particulars of this event will be disclosed on April 23 during a press conference to be held at the headquarters of the Captaincy General of the Canary Islands in the capital.
“We are working rigorously towards the celebration of this day, and I extend my gratitude to all the departments involved for their tremendous effort in preparing everything for this occasion,” remarked the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez.
The councillor further noted that since 1986, the Canary Islands have not hosted a similar event on their soil, an occasion that “was a very memorable moment, still cherished throughout the islands”, as it featured the then Prince of Asturias parading as a cadet knight alongside the General Academy of Zaragoza.
Therefore, he emphasised that “it would be an honour to welcome the King, as the supreme commander of the Armed Forces, and the Princess of Asturias, if her military training permits.”
