Daily cases drop to 1,804 in a day with 36% fewer tests

The Archipelago added 1,804 coronavirus infections yesterday, which translates into the lowest daily figure in six days. However, the reduction is also extrapolated to the number of diagnostic tests performed. And is that 9,577 tests were performed on Christmas Day, 36% less than 24, which closed with 15,004, and 52% less than 23, when 19,982 were performed. It should be noted that the region had to regret this Sunday five new deaths linked to the effects of Covid-19: two in Gran Canaria, two in Tenerife and one in La Palma. Until now, 1,113 people with Covid have died in the Archipelago.

Taking into account the provisional data notified by Health, Tenerife added 725 clinical pictures to its statistics yesterday; Gran Canaria 843; Lanzarote 92; Fuerteventura 78; La Palma 16; La Gomera 48; and El Hierro two.

In total, there are 28,369 patients suffering from SARS-CoV-2 infection in the autonomous community, a figure that represents a new record. Most are in Tenerife, where 16,852 are affected – 674 more than in the previous 24 hours. Gran Canaria follows, with 8,045 –797 more–; Fuerteventura, with 1,691 –77 more–; Lanzarote, with 1,179 –92 more–; La Palma, with 331 – nine more -; La Gomera, with 186 –48 more–; and El Hierro, with 82 –three less–.

Today marks a year since the administration of the first vaccines against the coronavirus in the Islands and in the rest of Spain. In fact, December 27, 2020 became the most anticipated date. Finally, users of residences and social health centers and some workers in these spaces received the first dose of Pfizer prophylaxis.

Little by little, new groups were incorporated into the strategy until reaching children between 5 and 11 years old, who began to be summoned on December 15. With them, the target population in the Canary Islands amounted to 2,097,684 people.

According to the figures managed by the Ministry, and which correspond to the closing of December 25, the nurses of the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) have already administered 3,685,912 injections of the compounds, of which 392,278 are booster doses. In addition, Until December 22, 1,684,838 inhabitants had completed the vaccination regimen, which represents 80.32% of the target population. It will be today when the health administration communicates the progress achieved in recent days and updates the percentages.

Right now, the accumulated incidence in the last seven days stands at 724.23 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and that of the last 14 marks 1,120.61 squares on the same number of people – on Saturday it exceeded a thousand for the first time. In the course of a week, the first one has increased 341 points and the second 594.86.

After the last balance, 123 epidemiological discharges were issued. However, in critical areas, 52 patients with coronavirus continue to be admitted, while 293 remain in the ward – two less than those reported the previous day.
