The City Council of La Laguna has received the Blue Path flag for the coastal route at Punta del Hidalgo in Murcia, a national recognition that attests to the environmental and scenic values of this path along the Lagunera coast.
Councillor Cristina Ledesma attended the award ceremony at the Murcia Tourism Institute and highlighted in a statement that “the path known as Camino de San Juanito has successfully renewed this distinction for the fifth consecutive year, reaffirming La Laguna City Council’s dedication to the conservation and promotion of the environmental features of this path, which is the only one in Tenerife to hold such recognition.”
The Blue Paths Programme, initiated by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (Adeac), aims to highlight routes renowned for their natural, cultural, and heritage value, fostering environmental awareness through recreational, educational, and tourism-related activities.
This year, Adeac awarded a total of 154 Blue Paths across Spain, with 26 receiving the honour for the first time, contributing to a network that now spans over a thousand kilometres.
The Camino de la Costa, located at Punta del Hidalgo, extends roughly 2.7 kilometres, commencing at the beach of the root and traversing the natural pool of Arenisco and the lighthouse at Punta del Hidalgo before concluding at the hermitage of San Juanito.
This walking trail can be completed in about 45 minutes.
The route runs parallel to the coastline, featuring distinctive volcanic formations that host a rich biodiversity.
In recent years, birdwatching points have been established and the entire informational signage along the path has been updated, among other enhancements.
