The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has announced that the refurbishment and enhancement works for the accessibility of San Martín Street, located in the iconic neighbourhood of El Toscal, will be finished tomorrow, Friday, March 28. The road will be fully accessible up to the intersection with Santiago Street, leaving the lower section of the street, until the junction with Calle de la Rosa, available for residents to access their garages.

The project commenced in July 2024 and has a budget of €500,000, with €42,000 allocated for the paving. The works progressed in three stages.

The Mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, emphasised that “with the completion of this project, we are making further strides in the modernisation and enhancement of the city, particularly within our historic neighbourhoods. San Martín Street is a significant thoroughfare for many residents of El Toscal, and this intervention has greatly improved its accessibility, safety, and urban environment.”

Meanwhile, the Councillor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, stated that “the completed works have not just enhanced the road itself; the pavements have been widened, lighting, drainage, and water supply have been upgraded, resulting in a more accessible path for all pedestrians, including those with reduced mobility.”

“This intervention has entirely revitalised one of the main arteries of El Toscal, thereby enhancing the quality of life for all local residents,” concluded the mayor.

The councillor in charge of the Central-Iphara district, Dávila Purificación, acknowledged this initiative as part of the various improvements being implemented in El Toscal. “It is excellent news for the neighbourhood that we can once again utilise this street, which has been thoroughly rehabilitated, thus improving mobility in this section of the city.”

The City Council highlighted that this initiative is part of an ongoing commitment to invest in the modernisation of infrastructure and to enhance accessibility throughout the city.
