On Wednesday, the Governing Council of the Cabildo de Tenerife sanctioned the agreement with the Canary Housing Institute for the implementation of the ADD V of the state and regional agreement aimed at promoting protected housing. This initiative will facilitate the construction of 674 residences across the Canary Islands, including 134 in Tenerife.
These residences are specifically set to be situated in the municipalities of Adeje, Arona, and Guía de Isora. The anticipated total investment for the island stands at 18,224,978 euros, with the Cabildo contributing 4.4 million euros, as outlined by the island institution in a press statement.
Vice President Lope Afonso remarked, “This contribution reflects the commitment that this council has shown since last year towards promoting various modalities and programmes of housing for those who are most in need in Tenerife.”
Meanwhile, the Mobility Ministry has disclosed the initial results of the demand transport service in the municipalities of Güímar, Arico, and Fasnia. Since commencing operations in November 2024 and up to March 24, 2025, the service has facilitated the transportation of 5,038 individuals, equating to approximately 40% of the over 13,000 residents in this southern region.
Cabildo President Rosa Dávila has reviewed the data and affirmed that it substantiates “the success” of a measure constituting one of the 70 actions taken by the Cabildo to advance “towards a more sustainable mobility, prioritising public transport and reducing the number of cars on the road.”
The purpose of this complimentary service is to assist the daily movements of residents residing in isolated rural areas or those with limited access to conventional public transport. The system is regionalised and operates without fixed routes, functioning from Monday to Friday between 6:30 and 20:30 to provide a flexible response to actual demand.
Additionally, all routes are connected to the nearest bus stops, encouraging the use of collective public transport.
“We are already in the process of progressively expanding this service to other regions of the island. We are currently addressing the contractual procedures to extend the service to Tacoronte-El Sauzal, La Matanza, La Victoria, and Santa Úrsula, as well as Icod, Garachico, El Tanque, and Los Silos,” the president stated.
Regarding municipal collaboration, approval has been granted for the sanitation network project in the Las Chafiras area. This initiative is part of the Insular Plan for Cooperation, focusing on municipal works and services from 2022 to 2026, involving an investment of 2,543,211.40 euros in one of the most vibrant industrial and residential sectors in the south of the island.
This project is co-financed by the Cabildo de Tenerife, which covers 58.02% of the budget, and the San Miguel City Council, which will fund 41.98% of the works.
Furthermore, in relation to the primary sector, the Governing Council has resolved to enhance agricultural research through a new collaboration protocol with the ICIA. This will include a line of support to assist groups involved in livestock health defence, with the objective of ensuring veterinary clinical assistance for the island’s cattle farms.
