Santa Cruz de Tenerife 26 Mar. (Europa Press) –

The president of the Canary Islands Government, Fernando Clavijo, stated on Wednesday that the precautionary measures ordered by the Supreme Court mandating the State to care for a thousand asylum-seeking minors underscores their “neglect of duties.”

In his remarks to reporters, he emphasised that he has supported the Canary Islands’ position “from the very beginning,” asserting that the best interests of minors were compromised by their non-inclusion in the state system, reiterating that his government was “correct.”

He highlighted the judicial decision as “excellent news” and a source of “additional joy” following the ratification of the minors’ distribution decree-law. He noted, based on data from NGOs, that there could be over 1,300 minors from Mali involved in the asylum procedure—when the appeal was filed, numbers exceeded five hundred.
