The Cabildo de Tenerife announced on Monday that it will enhance its service with new buses on the most in-demand routes, including the 108 (Santa Cruz – La Orotava – Los Realejos), the 111 (Santa Cruz – Los Cristianos – Costa Adeje), and the 120 (Santa Cruz – Güímar via Candelaria).
Rosa Dávila, the president of the Cabildo, made this revelation during the unveiling of the first 31 vehicles from a total of 104 that are set to be introduced into the service by 2025. This new fleet aims to improve accessibility for users, particularly those with reduced mobility or sensory impairments.
The newly acquired buses will feature fifteen interurban diesel vehicles measuring 15 metres and 16 hybrid suburban buses with a low floor design at 12 metres, which will gradually be deployed on the most popular routes.
Among the key accessibility features of these new buses is a body lifting and descent mechanism that adjusts the vehicle’s height to align with the pavement.
Additionally, the buses will incorporate designated areas for wheelchairs, buttons with Braille, visual and auditory alerts, ramps to facilitate wheelchair access, illuminated payment system indicators for passengers with visual impairments, and a next stop announcement system approved by ONCE.
