The Telesforo Bravo and Juan Coello Foundation has issued a warning on Wednesday regarding the “utter disarray” observed last Monday in Teide National Park. There were numerous vehicles stationed along the roadside and individuals walking off the designated trails, thereby “endangering their own safety.”

Through a message disseminated on social media, they expressed strong criticism towards the politicians managing the park, arguing that while these officials claim to have implemented “unprecedented measures to safeguard it,” the truth is they only pursue “more tourists.”

The Foundation argues that although officials assert that “the National Park stands as the crown jewel of Tenerife’s protected natural areas” and that “sustainability is paramount,” they have yet to ratify a PRUG that “restricts” visitor numbers.

According to the Foundation, “there is a reluctance to regulate the entry of private vehicles, especially rentals,” and they are unable to manage the “numerous illegal parking situations” that threaten the environment, “despite the fact that over a year ago they announced plans to acquire measures to prevent them.”

“There is insufficient monitoring, and last Monday we had to dissuade several tourists from flying drones and collecting rocks,” they emphasise.
