Telesforo Bravo Foundation Blames Institutions for Teide’s Overcrowding Crisis

The Telesforo Bravo and Juan Coello Foundation issued a warning on Wednesday regarding the “chaos” that occurred last Monday in Teide National Park. There were numerous vehicles parked along the road edges, and people were wandering outside the designated paths and even along the roads, thus “endangering their lives.”

In a statement shared through social media, the foundation critiqued the politicians overseeing the park, stating that although they proclaim to have implemented “unprecedented measures for its protection,” the actual intent appears to be “more tourists and even more tourists.”

Additionally, they noted that while officials uphold that “the National Park is the crown jewel of Tenerife’s protected natural areas” and claim that “sustainability is paramount,” they have failed to approve a PRUG (Plan for Use and Management) that would “restrict” the number of visitors.

The foundation asserts that there is “no desire to regulate private vehicle access, particularly rental cars,” and that they cannot manage the “numerous illegal parking areas” that harm the environment, “despite having announced over a year ago the acquisition of tools to prevent this.”

“There is inadequate surveillance, and last Monday we had to deter several tourists from flying drones and taking rocks,” he emphasised.
