The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, announced on Wednesday that a consensus has been established to allow tourist buses operating in Anaga to temporarily extend to 12.2 metres, with the objective of facilitating the renewal of their fleet over the next five years to an ultimate length of 11 metres.
This initiative is a response to local efforts to address mobility challenges in the region, and its application awaits the necessary approval from the Provincial Traffic Directorate.
During a press briefing concerning government council agreements, Dávila confirmed that recent discussions took place with the DGT to explore the local initiative aimed at reducing the size of the buses permitted to travel through the Anaga and Masca parks.
She mentioned that a temporary arrangement has been established with the sector, allowing for 12.2-metre vehicles to operate for a duration of five years, leading to the eventual introduction of 11-metre buses for Anaga and 10-metre buses for Masca.
Although the president did not clarify the precise timing for the implementation of this regulation, she stated that the “agreement” has already been secured, and it is now up to the Provincial Traffic Directorate in Tenerife to proceed with the resolution.
