Tamara Raya, the general secretary of the PSOE in Tenerife, dismissed the notion on Friday that the motion of no confidence organised between the Canarian Coalition, the Popular Party, and Vox to remove Jennifer Miranda (PSOE) in Granadilla will impact on municipalities where they govern alongside CC, such as La Laguna or Güímar.
During a press conference, Raya indicated that for La Laguna, where “there is no debate”, the decision rests with the local general secretary and mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, who has expressed satisfaction with the current agreement, especially given the challenges in forming a government with the parties to the left of the PSOE, despite having attempted this at the beginning of the mandate.
Furthermore, he remarked that the PSOE is “a party of words” that honours its commitments, “unlike the Canarian Coalition and especially Fernando Clavijo”, whom he accused of consistently undermining agreements and “seizing power whenever possible.”
Regarding these agreements, Tamara Raya emphasised that they provide autonomy to the municipalities to pursue the arrangements they deem most suitable.
“We are not going to dismantle what is functioning well and where there is stability. I understand that this is a crutch used, but in La Laguna, the mayor is content governing with CC,” stated the PSOE general secretary in Tenerife.
Addressing the difficulties of forming a government with left-wing parties in La Laguna, he reminded that there are various municipalities in northern Tenerife, such as Puerto de la Cruz, where the PSOE has facilitated right-wing administrations between CC and the PP.
Raya also criticized Canarian President Fernando Clavijo for violating the “energetic vetoes” that he imposed prior to the last elections on both Podemos and Add and Vox, proclaiming that he would not engage in agreements with them, even though he later authorised Vox councillors to be dismissed and support the island government’s votes.
