Tenerife Hosts National Junior Road Cycling Elite Competition

Our island is set to host the inaugural weekend of April I Cyclist Return to Tenerife Junior , which aims to establish itself as a key event in national youth cycling. As part of this initiative, it has been included in the official series of events that contribute to the national rankings for this category, highlighting its ambitions and the regard the Spanish Cycling Federation holds for its organisers.

On April 5 and 6, a total of 120 cyclists representing 18 teams will convene to compete in the two stages that comprise this event. The first stage will commence in Taco, featuring an initial distance of 91.14 km that includes a challenging ascent with an 8.4% gradient. The second stage, which begins in Santa Cruz and culminates at the lagoon, will be shorter, yet undoubtedly more dramatic due to its mountainous terrain, at just over 50 km.

Four teams from the Canary Islands will contribute to the regional cycling representation over the weekend: one from Gran Canaria, another from La Palma, and two teams from Tenerife, where road cycling has deep-rooted traditions. It should be noted that some of these teams have been competing on the mainland with impressive results throughout much of the year. This means the progress of our riders will need close attention as they vie for podium positions, both overall and in the mountain and sprint challenges.

Indeed, the anticipation in the Peninsula has been remarkably high. Those involved in organising the event are looking forward to hosting a race under outstanding weather conditions ideal for outdoor sports all year round. So much so that several directors from mainland teams are currently on a waiting list to register, as the quota has already reached capacity.

The I Cycling Return to Tenerife Junior 2025 represents a significant commitment from the Cabildo de Tenerife, through its Ministry of Sports led by Yolanda Moliné, and the public company Ideco (insular management for sport, culture, and leisure), under the leadership of Manolo Gómez, as well as the Government of the Canary Islands and the municipalities of La Laguna, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and Arona. Additionally, it has garnered support from private sponsors such as Freemotion Bakecenter, Fuentealta, and Comauto Rent a Car.
