Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 12 Mar. (Europa Press) –

Nueva Canarias-Canarist Bloque (NC-BC) has introduced 46 proposals for resolution at the ‘Debate on the State of Canarian Nationality’, advocating for a series of vital proposals and measures aimed at ensuring access to adequate housing and enhancing quality public education across the archipelago.

The president and spokesperson for the parliamentary group, Carmen Hernández and Esther González, will promote these initiatives on Thursday, which include the declaration of the Canary Islands as a platform for peace and sustainability.

They oppose the introduction of gas in the ports of Luz and Las Palmas, demand the declaration of Guguy (Gran Canaria) as a National Park, and seek remediation for the “punishment” implemented by the Canarian government, which involves “excluding Lanzarote from the fuel bonus”.

The Canarian representatives advocate for a new Canary Housing Law to be approved between 2025 and 2030. This legislation aims to encourage collaborative housing, incentivise the rental of vacant properties, declare market areas facing price tensions to limit costs, and establish regulations to mitigate the impact of holiday rentals.

On the topic of education, they propose to ensure the allocation of 5% of the islands’ GDP towards educational funding, support early education for children aged zero to three, update educational facilities with sustainable practices, enhance dual vocational training, integrate Canarian content into the curriculum, and safeguard Canarian teachers and public universities through adequate financial support.

Furthermore, they will advocate for a comprehensive agreement for sustainable tourism that helps manage population growth, the establishment of an ecological tax (ecotasa), the safeguarding of the primary sector, and the advancement of train project initiatives.

The proposals also include improving the dependency care system, the development of a citizen income initiative, and enhancements to the public health framework, including the Prevention Programme for Child and Adolescent Mental Health, restructuring primary healthcare services, and reducing waiting lists for surgical procedures, specialisations, and diagnostic tests.

Reform of the Foreigner Law

In terms of relationships with the State, the proposed reform of article 25 of the Foreigner Law aims for the equitable distribution of unaccompanied minor migrants across all communities within the State, as well as adherence to all powers transferred as outlined in the Statute.

They propose a new financing mechanism that includes the exemption of the Fiscal Income of the Ref, the cancellation of debt under terms approved by Parliament and advocated by NC-BC, classification of aerial connections with the Peninsula as public service obligations, and updates to the rates governing the transport of interinsular goods and those to the rest of the national territory.

The Canarist group will also express opposition to the exploitation of oil and gas by Morocco in proximity to the Canary Islands and urge the United Nations to advance “without delay, a fair and definitive resolution of the Western Sahara conflict based on UN resolutions.”

Additionally, they call for the cessation of hostilities in Gaza and the initiation of a peace process that includes the official recognition of Palestine as a state.
