“This vessel was adrift and a course alteration was necessary” This is the primary reason provided this Wednesday by José Domingo Regalado, leader of the Canary Coalition in Granadilla, concerning the motion of censure that the nationalists, alongside the PP and Vox, have presented to oust the socialist Jennifer Miranda from the Mayor’s Office.
“Numerous residents feel that this Town Hall has not been on the right path; it resembled a drifting ship,” stated Regalado, further adding, “We cannot bear responsibility for this predicament. A change in direction is essential to end this institutional stagnation.”
José Domingo Regalado González (Granadilla de Abona, 1981), who holds a degree in History from the University of La Laguna, has previously served as mayor of the Granadilla municipality in two terms. He has accused the sitting socialist mayor, Jennifer Miranda, of refusing to engage with him, the President of the Canary Islands Government Fernando Clavijo, and the President of the Cabildo de Tenerife Rosa Dávila.

“A mayor independent of political affiliations has the duty to confer with other leaders from different administrations to serve the interests of their community,” remarked the individual likely to become the new mayor. “That is exactly what we intend to do, as I did during my prior two terms: prioritising the needs of the residents above all else.”
The motion of censure introduced by CC, PP, and Vox is set for a vote during a plenary session scheduled for the 26th. Should it pass as expected, with a majority of 13 councillors (including the 10 from CC, one of two from the PP—since the other is opposed to this motion—and both from Vox) over a total of 25, José Domingo Regalado will assume the position of Mayor of Granadilla de Abona for a third time, in one of the most significant municipalities in Tenerife with the highest demographic growth.
It would mark the second instance of José Domingo Regalado ascending to the Town Hall via a motion of censure against the PSOE. The first occurrence was in 2016 against the PSOE mayor Jaime González Cejas. It is noteworthy that he managed the City of Granadilla de Abona between 2016 and 2019 and again from 2019 to 2023. In all instances, he governed in alliance with the PP.

He has served as a secondary school teacher and was the mayor responsible for Youth, Festivals, Communication, and Institutional Relations in his hometown. Additionally, he holds the position of general secretary of CC in the southern municipality.
After presenting the motion of censure at the Town Hall on Wednesday, Regalado recalled that the current mayor, Jennifer, “overlooked significant projects for Granadilla“
