The Smart pools are facilities designed to facilitate personalised training planning, real-time data analysis, and promote competition among various establishments.
Although such swimming pools already exist in other locations across Spain, the first one was launched this week in Tenerife within the Canary Islands.
This state-of-the-art pool is located in the Sports Complex Pancracio García de Puerto de Santiago on the island. It marks a significant achievement in sports technology in the Canary Islands, establishing it as one of the most innovative and secure centres with enhanced accessibility for all its users.
Consequently, it joins the Spanish Network of Connected Smart Pools (EPIC), a programme sponsored by the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation (RFEN) and the company Nagy By Zonyx.
Cutting-edge technology
A prominent feature of this smart pool is the application of advanced monitoring and big data technologies. Swimmers will be equipped with a small device in their goggles, which transmits data via a network of connected antennas.
This data will be processed using specialised Nagy software, enabling the real-time tracking of each swimmer’s activity.
Data collection is crucial to enhance the teaching of swimming, facilitate the personalised planning of training sessions, and even identify athletic talents at an early stage. This feature turns the pool into an essential resource for coaches, athletes, and clubs, providing an extensive level of detail concerning the performance of each user.
Enhancing safety
In addition to boosting athletic performance, this technology prioritises user safety. Thanks to the direct connection with lifeguards, swimmers will be better protected than ever.
The system alerts lifeguards to potential danger situations, enabling them to act swiftly and effectively in the event of any incident. This capability to anticipate possible accidents, such as drownings, represents one of the significant advancements offered by the smart pool.
Network of smart pools
The integration of the Pancracio Socas García sports complex into the Spanish Network of Connected Smart Pools (EPIC) signifies a step towards the modernisation of the aquatic sector in Spain.
EPIC is an initiative that incorporates advanced technology to enhance the experiences of both users and sports professionals. The Network is promoted by the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation (RFEN) and Nagy By Zonyx, with backing from Next Generation European funds through a funding initiative by the Higher Sports Council (CSD).
This programme aims to improve the sustainability and inclusivity of sports facilities, equipping pools with cutting-edge tools to enhance training and safety.
