Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 10 Mar. (Europa Press) –
The Deputy Minister of the Presidency and spokesperson for the Canarian government, Afonso Cabello, has urged on Monday for the “Canarian way” of conducting politics ahead of the second debate on the status of Canarian nationality, which will take place in the Canary Parliament tomorrow. He expressed his desire to be “as constructive as possible” so that progress can be made towards “better alternatives and solutions” for the citizens of the autonomous community.
During a press briefing following the Governing Council held on Monday in Tenerife, he emphasised the “key” nature of this event, which will offer an opportunity to “pause” and “reflect” on the work accomplished over the past year by the government, as well as to “review” the objectives for the upcoming 12 months.
“As the spokesperson for the Canary Islands government, I must present a vision that the president, Fernando Clavijo, will strive to convey tomorrow. This vision focuses on the advancements made in recent months regarding the most pressing issues for our autonomous community, particularly those related to putting people at the heart of decision-making, encompassing areas such as education, health, and social welfare,” he stated.
He further highlighted that during this legislature, it has been possible to “reverse” a “legacy” situation from previous governments, specifically a “certain level of inactivity” concerning various vital matters for the Canarian community.
He has also expressed his hope that the debate will be “as constructive as possible” in a “Canarian manner”, despite the “divergences and disagreements” that exist with opposition political parties, enabling the crafting of “better alternatives and solutions” for the citizens of the Autonomous Community.
