Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 9 Mar. (Europa Press) –
The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, will meet on Monday in Madrid with the Minister of Finance of the Spanish Government, María Jesús Montero, to discuss the funding of the exceptional distribution agreement concerning approximately 4,400 unaccompanied migrants from the Canary Islands and Ceuta. This meeting was initially scheduled for 12 February but was postponed due to the minister’s illness, as clarified by the Canarian Executive at that time.
This information has been provided by the Regional Government, which indicates that during the meeting, alongside addressing the “essential” financial file to secure the extraordinary distribution of unaccompanied minors to other autonomous communities, they will also focus on the status of the financial items related to the so-called ‘Canarian agenda’.
Consequently, the Canarian Executive anticipates that this meeting will facilitate the financing that the Autonomous Communities will receive, allowing for the initiation of negotiations with the parliamentary groups in Congress, while also awaiting a decision on whether a decree law or a legislative proposal will be pursued.
The meeting is expected to take place at 12:00, at the Ministry’s headquarters.
