Santa Cruz de Tenerife 8 Mar. (Europa Press) –

On the Friday of Piñata during the Carnival of Santa Cruz, the preventive measures in place resulted in 40 individuals receiving assistance for various issues. Of those assisted, 31 were adults and nine were minors. The gender distribution showed 20 males and 20 females.

As is customary, the majority of assistance during the night was for individuals suffering from alcohol poisoning, accounting for 30% of the total interventions, as indicated in the report released this Saturday by the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council.

Specifically, eight individuals were treated for trauma, three for falls, and six were assisted due to poisoning from narcotic substances.

The local authority notes that the night unfolded with “considerable calm,” although two cases classified as injuries resulting from assaults were reported, alongside nine assists for common ailments unrelated to the carnival.

Health services transported nine individuals to hospitals for diagnostic assessments or for more specialised care.

Additionally, a resource dedicated to younger attendees was managed by the Spanish Red Cross, collaborating with the Local Police Unit associated with the Minor Prosecutor’s Office.

This police division recorded and assessed data concerning seven minors, five of whom were girls, with a total of three suffering from alcohol poisoning.

Throughout the night, local police apprehended two men, both aged 21, who were found in possession of various narcotic substances intended for sale.

These arrests were the outcome of a collaborative effort between the local police, who maintained a presence at the booth near the Cabildo de Tenerife building, in conjunction with members of the canine unit of the police force.

The detained individuals carried different quantities of ecstasy, hashish, and cocaine prepared for distribution, along with a knife, several empty monodose packets, and €127 in cash.

Overall, the Local Police recorded 22 instances of possession or use of narcotic substances. The police also stopped a driver who was observed drinking alcohol while driving on Valentín Sanz.

In the late hours of the night, another man was detained for theft with force from a vehicle on Imeldo Serís Street.

Units from the National Police, integrated into the response measures, carried out various preventive actions and maintained security, particularly in the Alameda area of the Duke of Santa Elena and Francisco La Roche Avenue.

No sexual assaults reported at ‘Violet Points’

The Advanced Care Post (PAA) situated in Plaza de España was operated by the Santacrucera Civil Protection Volunteer Group. A total of four individuals were attended to at this resource.

Regarding the operation of two violet points, both near Plaza de España and within the Carnival Hospital, there were no reports of sexual assaults, gender-based violence, or sexist acts. The local authority confirmed that only informative activities were conducted.

Concerning the functioning of the rainbow point, specialised personnel available to inform and advise on possible LGBTQIA+ issues received details about one case of this nature, although it was not linked to the Santacrucero Carnival.

The remainder of the actions concentrated on explaining the function of this resource, which is available during the carnival, and providing information on sexual matters.

On this initial festive day, members of the Local Police, National Police, the Tenerife Fire Consortium, the Santacrucera Civil Protection Volunteer Group, and health personnel from the Spanish Red Cross were all present.

Coordination for all activities was managed from the Advanced Command Post (PMA) located at the Carnival Hospital in General Gutiérrez Mellado Plaza in the capital of Tenerife.
