Santa Cruz de Tenerife 6 Mar. (Europa Press) –
The Commissioner for the Economic and Fiscal Regime (REF) of the Canary Islands, José Ramón Barrera, and the Minister for Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Regional Government, Poli Suárez, have introduced the inaugural training programme focused on the island’s jurisdiction, targeting 30,000 educators across primary, secondary, high school, and vocational training in public institutions throughout the archipelago.
This initiative marks the commencement of a project aimed at ensuring students at every educational level are acquainted with the unique tax and economic framework that the islands have relied upon for five centuries, as highlighted by the commissioner in a statement.
“The REF is more than just a fiscal structure; it is a crucial element for comprehending the past, present, and future of our archipelago,” stated Barrera, who emphasised the “essential” role of equipping teachers with the means to “convey this knowledge and ensure” that students grasp its significance in transforming the Canary Islands into “a competitive region on par with the rest of the country and Europe.”
They further elaborate that the course’s content is organised into four modules, enabling participants to gain in-depth insight into the origins and characteristics of the current regime in the Canary Islands and learn how to communicate this knowledge effectively in their classrooms.
This initial reference course will cater to educators from all levels of education. Registration is available on the Teaching Improvement Service platform, which can be accessed via the Ministry’s website.
It will remain listed in the catalogue of self-directed courses under the theme ‘Education and Cultural Heritage of the Canary Islands’, and participants will receive certification for 15 training hours, to be completed by April 30.
The next enrolment period will commence from May 1 to June 30 and will be offered bimonthly throughout each academic year.
