Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 6 Mar. (Europa Press) –
The publicly owned reservoirs of the Cabildo de la Palma have returned to 2022 levels, accommodating over 4.5 million reservoir pipes, as per the latest information provided by the Insular Water Council.
The filling level of the reservoirs indicates that the two largest capacity deposits on the island, the Laguna de Barlovento and Vicario, would be nearly 90%. However, the overall filling rate of all public reservoirs stands at 45%, as stated by the island’s authority in a release.
Juan Ramón Felipe, the island’s vice president and Aguas Councillor, highlighted that the Laguna de Barlovento and La Balsa de Vicario, located in Tijarafe, are among the largest reservoirs in La Palma and the wider Canary Islands.
“It’s important to note that the Laguna de Barlovento, currently at 20% of its capacity, holds 345,034 cubic metres of water, while Vicario is at 24%, containing 339,819 cubic metres,” he remarked.
He further emphasised that the Laguna de Barlovento continues to function as a distributor of this vital resource across various deposits on the island and explained that this filling level has increased from 8% to 20% of its total capacity within the past month.
The vice president clarified that this report does not reflect the rainfall data from the first weekend of March, nor does it include the snow accumulation in the highest elevations of La Palma, “indicating that the figures could potentially be even higher.”
Additionally, the institution’s president, Sergio Rodríguez, underscored the commitment to “continue striving” to restore this “crucial” service, which is essential for the daily lives of the residents and the growth of the primary sector, crucial for the island’s development.
12 reservoirs documented
In this latest update, a total of 12 reservoirs are recorded, up from 11 as previously noted, following the initial inclusion of the Vicar reservoir, an essential infrastructure for the Tijarafe area’s primary sector, now integrated into the public storage system.
The Adeyahamen in San Andrés and Sauces is functioning at 93% of its capacity, Bediesta at 96%, the Lomadas at 93%, and the Foggy is at 100%.
In Puntallana, the Manuel Remón reservoir maintains 82% of its capacity, while in the municipality of Los Llanos de Aridane, Dos Pinos is at 93% and Cuatro Caminos at 57%.
The Vicar reservoir is at 24% capacity, with Puntagorda’s Arc and Puntagorda Mountain at 86% and 97%, respectively. In Fuencaliente, the Caldereta reservoir is at 67% of its total capacity.
