Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 5 March. (Europa Press) –
The playwright, author and columnist Luis Alemany, awarded the Canary Islands Literature prize in 2012, has passed away in the early hours of Wednesday in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
“We have lost one of our Canary Awards, a significant figure in literature and for his era. Works such as ‘Los Puercos de Circe’ rendered Luis Alemany exceptional in this aspect of his career, as well as in all other pursuits he undertook, particularly in the academic realm, where he influenced a generation of emerging writers. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends,” stated the president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, on his ‘X’ profile.
In a similar vein, Rosa Dávila, the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, acknowledged that Alemany, who was originally from Barcelona, considered Tenerife “his home.”
“As president, I wish to convey the corporation’s sympathies while honouring his incomparable contribution,” he remarked on the same social platform.
