Granadilla de Abona Approves a 66.8 Million Budget with Unanimous Support

With support from the municipal government (PSOE-PP) and abstentions from the opposition (CC-Vox), the Granadilla de Abona Plenary approved the municipal budget for this financial year. The total stands at 66,855,328 euros, with a surplus of 644,423 euros. The City Council itself will manage 66,132,873 euros, reflecting an increase of 6.71% and achieving budget stability with 1,986,558 euros. Personnel costs amount to 16,953,839 euros, which has been reduced by 6.76% from the latest allocations to the public company Sermugran, needing 34 municipal employees and significantly, 7,820,346 euros allocated “for projects and the construction of infrastructure,” as explained by the Treasury councillor, María Luz Fernández.

Investment, works, community welfare, social services, enhancement of sports facilities, targeted subsidy systems, the primary sector, and the regulation of scholarships form the core of this document aimed at “improving the circumstances of families,” stated Jennifer Miranda, the mayor. With a commitment to public service, social equity, and sustainable economic development, she noted that “Granadilla de Abona is more dynamic than ever and is awakening from its slumber due to a clear dedication to concrete policies and a commitment to public service, focusing on all population centres and investments centred on community well-being, social services, education, employment and the primary sector.

In the view of the Treasury Councillor, the Granadilla budget “has developed a robust social shield for a stronger and more cohesive society, allocating over 10% of the budget.” The pledge to enhance public services via the Public Company Sermugran—backed by over 12 million euros—will be evident in the upkeep of the 58 playgrounds and “a strong commitment” towards the urbanisation of the Urban Park Cha Joaquina, the Plaza de San Isidro, public parking, and improved pedestrian access to Santa Cruz Avenue from the San Isidro Civic Space.

The investment chapter, worth nearly eight million euros, is described as “the most significant in the history of Granadilla de Abona” and “reflects the investment balance that all population centres merit,” remarked the mayor.

Among the numerous initiatives she highlighted during the session, the acquisition of the Cine Execute wake room at Chimiche stands out, along with improvements at Plaza de los Marineros (the coats), educational centres, and the children’s school. Additionally, enhancements at the Los Cardones Sports Centres, Chiñama, La Hoyita, Football Campos de Chaco del Pino, El Médano, and the El Médano Skate Park, as well as plans for the sports centre in Casablanca, Atogo, the Desert, the Salto, and the Blanquitos, were mentioned.
