Madrid, 2 Mar. (Europa Press) –

Andalusia, Catalonia and the Valencian Community are under an orange alert for rainfall this Monday, while Castilla y León and the Community of Madrid will maintain their snow warnings, and the Canary Islands will have a yellow alert due to rain on a day when heavy precipitation is anticipated in the eastern part of the peninsula, as well as in the eastern and southwestern regions of Andalusia.

Over the past few days, there has been a gradual rise in instability, expected to continue into the following week. This Monday, significant rainfall is anticipated around the Gulf of Cádiz, Strait, and Costa del Sol, with the southern parts of Tarragona and the Valencian Community also facing possibly heavy rainfall, which could be very intense and persistent, according to predictions from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

Specifically, in the Valencian Community, precipitation could surpass 100 litres within 12 hours, while in Andalusia, it may be accompanied by thunderstorms and small hail, with amounts exceeding 80 litres in 12 hours for the Strait and Costa del Sol.

Snowfall in the central system is likely during the early hours, and in the Pyrenees expected during the latter part of the day. The snow level in the northern regions will rise from 1,400-1,600 metres to between 1,600-2,000 metres by day’s end.

In the Canary Islands, significant rainfall is projected on the islands with higher elevations until the afternoon, which may be locally heavy and/or persistent, and in the form of snow at the summit of Teide.

Regarding temperatures, a general moderate increase is expected for maximum temperatures, particularly notable in the plateaus adjacent to the central system. Similarly, minimum temperatures will rise generally, being slight in the southwest and moderate elsewhere. Frosts will be limited to the mountainous systems of the northern half, with moderate frost in the Pyrenees.

Moderate winds are forecasted for the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, predominantly from the east and northeast. Strong and/or very strong gusts are anticipated in the Alborán Sea and the coastlines of the northeast and northwest of the peninsula. Additionally, strong to very strong gusts are expected in the Balearic Islands, particularly affecting its Sotavento, during the latter part of the day. In the Canary Islands, a light northeast wind is expected initially, shifting to the north and then easing.
