The General Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Canary Islands Government, based on the information available and in application of the Special Plan for Civil Protection and Emergency Assistance for Forest Fires of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands (INFOCA) has declared the situation of maximum alert on the islands of El Hierro, La Palma, La Gomera, Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
In this sense, he explains that the alert is activated as of this Friday, August 13, at 10:00 a.m., due to the entry of dry continental air from the African continent that is going to cause very high temperatures on the islands, being able to exceed 40ºC in Gran Canaria, without ruling out that these values also occur on other islands, with a relative humidity generally lower than 30 percent, in an episode that could also last until at least Thursday, August 19.
The Canary Islands Government warns that the episode will begin affecting the peaks and midlands of the islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria from this Friday, August 13, and will spread in the following days towards the west, reaching the islands of La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro, where it will initially affect the midlands and high areas, to gradually descend in altitude as days go by.
