Santa Cruz de Tenerife 27 Feb. (Europa Press) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife, via the roads department, is set to enhance its fleet of Quitanieve Machines by acquiring three additional vehicles for a total expenditure exceeding 600,000 euros. These vehicles will feature a dumper body, a reinforced open box (12 to 14 cubic metres), a dump mechanism, and a quoted wedge.

In a statement, the Minister of Roads, Dámaso Arteaga, emphasised that the upkeep and enhancement of the Quitanieves machines is “crucial” for providing a superior service in “effectively and swiftly” clearing the access roads to the Teide National Park, which can become impassable during significant snowfall and frost.

He noted that this initiative complements the enhancement of safety measures on Tenerife’s roads, with contracts for maintenance and conservation work awarded in the central, northern, western, southern, and Anaga regions, totalling 43.3 million euros and encompassing 823.65 kilometres of roads.

Road Maintenance and Conservation

The contract, which spans three years and is extendable by a further two, includes the provision of a fleet with 10 new vehicles.

“This contract ensures 24-hour availability, 365 days a year, through specialised teams capable of responding promptly, particularly concerning priority road operations where timing is critical for delivering optimal service to users,” he stated.

The assigned tasks are categorised into various groups, including road activities, conservation, improvements, management systems usage, and defence.

Road activities aim to facilitate, or when necessary, enable vehicle operation on existing infrastructure under adequate safety and fluidity conditions, always prioritising the safety of road users and the urgency of required actions.

Accidents and incidents on the road will also be addressed, along with urgent repairs to any deterioration that may impact user safety, road maintenance during adverse weather conditions, and temporary signalling.

Furthermore, this includes the cleaning of materials spilled on the roadway and ensuring that road markings remain visible under appropriate conditions.
