Santa Cruz de Tenerife 26 Feb. (Europa Press) –

The Social Council of the University of La Laguna has commenced its annual action plan by presenting the findings of a survey concerning students’ perceptions of the academic institution, results which show a preference for face-to-face instruction. Accordingly, 47.4% of respondents assert that the teaching provided is either good or excellent, while 46.7% deem it satisfactory, and 5.6% indicate dissatisfaction.

In fact, seven out of ten would re-enrol in this establishment, a tendency that is prevalent across all fields of study, as reported by the university in an official statement.

This survey is based on a sample of 750 students, comprising 52.5% female and 47.5% male, with an average age of 20 years. Among this group, 97.7% are undergraduate students, while 2.3% are pursuing postgraduate studies. Additionally, 85% of the surveyed individuals reside in Tenerife.

In terms of teaching quality, the attributes most appreciated by respondents are the expertise and knowledge of the educators, with an average general satisfaction score of 7.12%. The most critical perceptions arose in the technical fields, while health sciences received the highest satisfaction ratings.

Libraries, sporting facilities, and cultural offerings are the most acknowledged and valued services among the university students. Regarding governance, students express a desire for increased engagement in the decision-making processes. The Student Council is the most recognised body, followed by the Social Council.

The majority opine that face-to-face teaching, complemented by online resources, is more effective. More than half of the respondents, specifically 54%, would prefer to pursue careers in the public sector, followed by 25% in private enterprises, and 14% in freelance or professional settings.

When asked about their personal values, the majority rejected discrimination based on sexual orientation or any other biases.

The rector of the University of La Laguna, Francisco García, expressed his contentment with the overall results of the survey, noting that 94% of students consider the teaching they have received to be good or satisfactory, which suggests that this public university is fulfilling its objectives.

He also remarked that as this is the inaugural barometer, adjustments are necessary for its design in subsequent versions.
