Tenerife’s Internet Service Sees a Surge in Speed with 80,000 Files Annually

The Cabildo de Tenerife Web page and its Electronic Headquarters have been enhanced to streamline over 80,000 annual procedures and improve citizen attention and service, as approved by the GOVERNMENT COUNCIL on Wednesday. The aim is to simplify access and tracking of the entire process of the formalities from start to finish, virtually through Tenerife.is and Headquarters.tenfe.es. Both platforms are compliant with accessibility standards, ensuring usability for individuals with disabilities. The new tools were introduced by the Second Vice President and Minister of Public Services, José Miguel Ruano, alongside the Insular Director of Human Resources, Public Service and Digital Transformation, Juan Manuel Santana. Ruano remarked that “we have made a significant leap in managing, among other matters, the over 80,000 annual procedures we receive from our citizens. Our website attracts nearly 400,000 visits a year, and we aimed to modernise it to align with contemporary requirements.”

Modernisation

The redesign is part of the modernisation strategy for 2024-2028, backed by a global budget of ten million euros. “Our goal is to reduce bureaucracy and enhance citizen service through digitisation, leading to a transformative change in how citizens interact with the local council,” noted Ruano. Juan Manuel Santana highlighted that one of the key improvements is the introduction of a new search engine, a clearer content structure, and the potential integration of other digital services from the Cabildo in the future. The design is adaptable to all devices, enabling procedures to be completed in fewer steps, allowing real-time consultation of files, and facilitating instant notifications to avoid unnecessary travel.

New Intranet

The Cabildo de Tenerife is also progressing in the Modernisation of its communication and internal collaboration, alongside enhancing support for staff with the inauguration of a new corporate intranet that has been under development for nearly two years. This initiative responds to the needs recently expressed by the staff.

Insular Network

The Council, with updates provided by Vice Presidents Ruano and Lope Afonso, while Insular President Rosa Dávila was away, approved the insular network of digital competence centres, Red Connect. This project involves an investment of 873,513 euros, aimed at providing free digital training across 15 municipalities on the island with populations under 20,000. These municipalities include Buenavista del Norte, Fasnia, Garachico, El Rosario, San Juan de la Rambla, Santa Úrsula, Santiago del Teide, El Sauzal, El Tanque, Tegueste, Vilaflor, Los Silos, La Victoria de Acentejo, La Matanza de Acentejo, and Arafo.

Residents

Thanks to this network, over 100,000 residents in these municipalities will have the opportunity to enhance their technological skills, navigate online procedures with greater ease, and boost their employment prospects, both vocationally and educationally. Each centre will provide six weekly training sessions and support for the community, with personalised assistance for those needing help, particularly the elderly, in utilising digital tools.

Subsidies

The Council also approved a series of grants via the Strategic Subsidies Plan for the 2024-2026 period, allocating 90.7 million euros to strengthen strategic sectors. This plan comprises 75 annual funding lines, reinforcing vital areas such as employment, the primary sector, culture, sport, equality, and social action. The programme is structured around nine fundamental objectives, including the promotion of employment, innovation, reinforcement of infrastructure, and the enhancement of public services. Additionally, the plan promotes training, cultural advancement, and the recognition of excellence through awards. The funding distribution allocates over 33 million for culture, museums, and sports; 25 million for the primary sector, industry, trade, and animal welfare; 23 million for employment, education, and youth; alongside various allocations totalling 9.7 million for equality, social action, and tourism.

Training

The Cabildo de Tenerife is launching the Agricultural Training Plan 2025, featuring over 200 training initiatives. The Governing Council approved this initiative on Wednesday, with activities planned for the year being proposed by the technical services responsible for agriculture and rural development, quality and agri-food enhancement, and livestock and fishing. The total investment amounts to 50,041 euros. The island’s councillor, Valentín González, stated: “Our focus is on training farmers and entrepreneurs within the rural environment to bolster their competitiveness and ensure generational transition.” This also entails providing specific support for the integration of young people into agriculture and livestock. Workshops and courses will be conducted by qualified technicians and specialists, held at the Honey House in El Sauzal and agricultural extension agencies in La Laguna, Granadilla, Fasnia, Tacoronte, La Orotava, Güímar, Valle San Lorenzo, Icod de los Vinos, Guía de Isora, and Buenavista del Norte.

Tourism

The Vice President, Lope Afonso, emphasised the revision of the Tourist Digital Platform contract with a budget of 547,090 euros and an implementation period of 18 months. An agreement was also ratified with the City Council of Isora for the renovation and expansion of the San Juan Beach Information Office, costing 256,612 euros, with the Cabildo contributing 165,628 euros. Furthermore, Afonso highlighted the approval of adjusted payments for the construction of the Auditorium of Candelaria, involving a disbursement of nine million euros through to 2028, with the Cabildo covering 80% of the expenses.

Sports

In the realm of sports, Afonso announced the awarding of the Master Games to Aresti Barca for 131,913 euros, which will span twelve months and encompass 40 competition days for individuals over 35 years old. He also mentioned the funding agreement for grassroots sport, which has increased by 20%, amounting to 2.4 million euros with a commitment extending until 2028.
