Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 25th Feb. (Europa Press) –

The President of the Canary Islands Government, Fernando Clavijo, has assured on Tuesday of the Executive’s support for Canarians abroad, particularly in America, where the economic and social conditions have become “difficult.”

“We are concerned that they receive proper treatment,” he stated in reply to a collective question during the Plenary control session of Parliament. He acknowledged that “if there are Canarians, there exists a fragment of the Canary Islands” and emphasised the importance of “maintaining their roots.”

In this regard, he defended the efforts undertaken by the Vice Ministry of External Action along with two general directorates that maintain “constant communication” with the Canary community in America, notably in Cuba and Venezuela.

They have specifically outlined that assistance includes processing permits, validating qualifications, providing food and medical supplies, humanitarian aid, surgical procedures, and covering the operational costs of community ‘homes.’

Raúl Acosta, spokesperson for Grupo Mix, expressed that the situation is “overshadowed” by the emergence of the pandemic and the ramifications of migration from Africa.
