Pope Francis has designated the priest and secretary chancellor of the Diocese of the Canary Islands, Eloy Alberto Santiago Santiago, as the new Bishop of the Diocese Nivariense (Tenerife). He is currently serving as Secretary Chancellor of the Diocese of the Canary Islands.
This announcement was made public on Monday by the Apostolic Nunciature to the Spanish Episcopal Conference, and it was shared in a press briefing by the Diocesan administrator, Antonio Pérez.
The diocese had been without a bishop since the acceptance of Bernardo Álvarez’s resignation on September 16, 2024, due to a diagnosis of ALS. Antonio Pérez has been serving as the diocesan administrator since September 17, 2024.
