Madrid/Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 22nd Feb. (Europa Press) –

This Sunday in the Canary Islands will feature mostly clear skies, with some occasional cloud cover throughout the day, apart from the easternmost islands where cloudy skies will prevail at the start, along with cloudy intervals in the northern regions of the mountains, where light rainfall cannot be dismissed during the early hours.

Consequently, temperatures will experience minimal fluctuations, apart from a slight drop in maximums and a minor increase in minimums. The thermometers will register temperatures ranging from 22 degrees at maximum in Lanzarote to a minimum of 12 on the island of El Hierro.

Meanwhile, the wind will blow moderately from the northeast, featuring strong intervals in the southeast and northwest parts of the mountainous islands towards the end of the day. In the higher altitudes, the winds will be gentle from the northeast, escalating to moderate levels in the afternoon.

Weather in the rest of the country

The front that affected the Peninsula on Friday will come to a conclusion by Saturday afternoon, providing stable weather conditions for Sunday across the Peninsula, with the only chance of rain being in certain areas of the Balearic Islands.

Furthermore, this stable weather will be accompanied by a general rise in temperatures across nearly all of Spain, save for the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Community.

Rain in the Balearic archipelago will manifest as locally heavy showers, with forecasts indicating up to 20 litres per square metre during the early hours in Ibiza, Formentera, and the Sierra de Tramontana.

The Aemet warns of potential dense and persistent fog in the early morning hours in Galicia, the Guadalquivir Valley, Alto Ebro, and particularly in the Northern Plateau and southern depressions.

The most significant temperature increases will be felt along the Cantabrian coast and in various parts of inland Castilla y León, where rises may reach four or five degrees on average, particularly in southeast Andalusia.

In other regions, temperatures will increase in the Mediterranean, reaching a maximum of 20ºC in Valencia, Murcia, or Almería, while Bilbao will see temperatures of 21ºC, the same as Seville or Cádiz. Inland, Madrid will experience temperatures of 15ºC, compared to 13ºC in Burgos or Valladolid.

Likewise, minimum temperatures will decrease generally across the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, leading to a wider spread and greater intensity of frosts, with weak effects in the mountains of the northern half, and more moderate effects in the Pyrenees.

As for the winds, they will be moderate in southwest Galicia, although strong gusts are anticipated along the Galician coast and in the Cantabrian region. Moderate winds from a northern direction are expected in the Balearic Islands and the eastern coastal areas of the Peninsula.
