Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 21 Feb. (Europa Press) –
The Bureau of the Canary Islands Parliament has agreed on Friday to extend the deadline for submitting amendments in its entirety until 26 February, meaning that the debate on the first reading cannot take place in the Parliament’s Plenary next Wednesday, as was originally scheduled.
The committee reviewed a letter submitted by the Socialist Group requesting the suspension of the legislative process, and with the dissenting vote from the Second Vice President, Gustavo Matos (PSOE)—his colleague Patricia Hernández was absent—it was decided to maintain the expedited procedure, acknowledging “the request from the Canary Islands government.”
The socialists have denounced the expedited processing as a “legislative fraud,” a point that has been rebutted by the popular group.
“It is regrettable that the PSOE, who previously turned a blind eye and contributed to the unchecked proliferation of this type of accommodation in the Canary Islands, is now attempting to postpone the essential regulation. They have exacerbated the issue and are now trying to obstruct the solution,” emphasises the popular deputy David Morales.
He also criticised the “inconsistency” of the PSOE, noting that “initially, they demanded in the Cabildos commission for this regulation to be processed by decree to expedite matters, and now they do not view the legislation as urgent,” while aligning themselves “with the far-right of Vox.”
