Officers from the local police in Arona, along with two technicians from the Canarian Emergency service (SUC), responded to a delivery involving a 35-year-old woman in the street, within the recreational zone of La Camella, as stated in a note by the Tenerife City Council.
These incidents took place on the afternoon of Thursday, February 20, when the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) received a call at 12:36 a.m. notifying them of a childbirth occurring in a public space.
Resources were mobilised by the emergency service (1-1-2), including a local police vehicle and a basic life support ambulance from the SUC.
The officers located the woman on Melara Street. Together with the ambulance crew, they immediately provided assistance to the woman who was about to give birth, making it impossible for her to be relocated to a hospital.
The woman successfully delivered a child, and both the mother and newborn awaited the arrival of a medicalised ambulance.
The medical team ensured the stability of both individuals, necessitating police support to facilitate traffic for their urgent transportation to the hospital.
The officers used their priority lights to clear the route from the birthing location to the Hospiten South Hospital in Playa de las Américas, where both were admitted. The City of Arona noted that they are “in perfect condition”.
