Investigators from the Homicide Group and the Judicial Police Brigade of the National Police have launched an inquiry to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of a 12-year-old girl, which took place on Thursday afternoon at the port of La Cruz, as confirmed by sources from the Body to Europa Press.
The young girl, reportedly a victim of bullying according to those who knew her, was a pupil at CEIP César Manrique, which cancelled classes on Friday. Nevertheless, the Ministry of Education of the Canary Islands Government stated that there had been no reports or ongoing protocols regarding harassment.
The local council has organised a minute of silence at 12.30 pm in tribute to the girl and expressed their sympathies to her family and friends “during this challenging period,” and has also cancelled a carnival event set for Friday morning.
The council acknowledges that this tragedy has “shocked” the community of Portuense and has called for “respect and solidarity.” “We believe it is vital to foster the emotional well-being of our students, teachers, and families during this time,” they added in a statement.
