The industrial estate of Los Majuelos, located in the municipality of La Laguna, is set to undergo a project involving various enhancement measures across a number of its streets. This initiative comes with an estimated investment of €2,061,268.97 and is being undertaken through a collaboration agreement with the Cabildo, as part of the Insular Programme for Actions in the Industrial Zones of Tenerife. Under this agreement, the Cabildo is contributing €1,000,000, while the City Council of La Laguna, responsible for executing the works, is allocating €1,061,268.97, of which €200,000 is included in this year’s budget; the remaining sum will be funded the following year, according to data from the works and infrastructure department.

The councillor in charge, Ángel Chinea, reminded everyone that “last year, we self-financed the resurfacing of the polygon road, with an expenditure of €800,000.” He continued, “This initiative will now be supplemented thanks to the agreement with the Cabildo, which will focus on renovating pavements, enhancing accessibility, installing electric vehicle charging points, and ensuring the necessary electricity supply in conjunction with Teidagua and Effic.”

Chinea emphasised that “we must recognise that this area is not only one of the principal industrial hubs of the municipality but also a heavily trafficked location due to its proximity to the Santiago Martín pavilion, as well as being a pedestrian thoroughfare frequently used by residents of El Paso Avenue and Chimisay Avenue to access the HUC or the tram.”

According to information from the relevant department, the project is currently being drafted and is expected to enter the bidding phase in the coming months, with engagement from the various involved departments to outline the needs to be addressed.

The aim of the project’s preliminary drafting is to modernise and enhance the current industrial sector, concentrating on upgrading infrastructure and amenities to introduce modernity, energy efficiency, and increased value to activities performed within the estate.

Specifically, the core activities will include the renewal and enhancement of the pavement, and collaboration with Teidagua to identify which services are outdated and require replacement.

Additionally, there will be a modernisation of existing public lighting, installation of new lighting in areas that currently lack it, and the setup of charging points for electric vehicles. Furthermore, a roundabout will be constructed at the junction of El Paso Avenue and Gandhi Avenue to regulate traffic and facilitate safer access to the industrial estate.

The agreement stipulates a duration of four years from its signing, which took place in mid-December 2024, meaning that the works must be completed by December 2028.
