The inaugural interpretation award in the Musical Group Contest of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife was bestowed upon Caña Dulce, during the competition held this past Saturday at the fairgrounds. Nine ensembles participated in the event in the following sequence: Salsabor, Los Yuppies, Caña Dulce, Nobility Canarian, Chaxiraxi, Teiderife, Isleño Sabor, Siboney, and Cantares Luz de Luna.
The second prize in the interpretive category was awarded to Chaxiraxi, with Salsabor securing the third position. The second accolade in this category was granted to Siboney. In terms of presentation, the highest honour was claimed by Charixaxi, followed by Salsabor in second place and the Luz de Luna singers in third, while the second prize went to Siboney. Furthermore, the Canarian nobility received the award for Best Unpublished Song. Additionally, Carolina Hernández from Siboney was recognised as the best soloist.
The panel of judges for the contest’s interpretation category comprised Juan Antonio Domínguez Martín, director of the Municipal Music Band of Santa Cruz de Tenerife; Dante Carlos Andreu France, choral conductor and composer; David Cachón Mañanes, a lecturer in the composition department of the Superior Conservatory of Music of the Canary Islands; Dimitri Díaz Abreu, founding president of the Canary Islands Cultural Association and general coordinator of the Ibero-American Choral Movement Platform; and Giselle Alonso Fernández, a percussionist and clarinetist who graduated from the Amadeo Roldán Music Conservatory in Havana.
In the presentation segment, the judging panel included Luz Sánchez Aguilar, an illustrator, painter, and fashion designer of the pending brand; Hector León León, film and theatre figurine; Beatriz de la Rosa Galván, fashion designer; Esther Rufino García, a Fine Arts graduate and Graphic Designer; and María Polín Ruíz, also a Fine Arts graduate.
Wendy Fuentes and Pedro Machín were responsible for presenting the show.
