The Cabildo announced yesterday that it has sanctioned an investment of €3.8 million to tackle drought conditions and enhance hydraulic infrastructure. This allocation will enable the Insular Water Council of Tenerife (CIATF) to commence various projects (€1.7 million), improve existing works (€1.4 million), and develop new initiatives (€634,000).

The president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila (CC), stated, “This investment is part of our strategy to ensure water security in Tenerife.” She continued, “We are taking decisive action from the Cabildo to strengthen the integral water cycle and modernise our infrastructure. Our objective is to make Tenerife more resilient in the face of drought and to ensure that no productive sector suffers due to a scarcity of water resources.”

Additionally, the Minister for Natural Environment, Sustainability and Safety and Emergencies, Blanca Pérez, remarked that “this is a significant financial boost to maintain our efforts, notably including €1.2 million for the urban supply corridor of North Tenerife in its phase A (Los Campitos-Valle Molina), and €500,000 for the desalination and regeneration water pipelines from San Isidro to the Tenerife South Airport Link (West Expansion Phase I), and even the Andoriñas industrial estate (Western extension phase II).”

The €1.4 million allocation will be used to enhance infrastructure improvements that are currently underway in both the northern and southern regions. Specifically, €770,500 is designated for the construction of the adduction and product deposit of the EDAS of Cruz de Rarifs (La Guancha) and €100,000 for upgrading the Silos treatment station and emissary (Low Island). In the south, €200,000 has been approved for expanding the EDAM of Granadilla, €190,000 for the Edam de Fonsalía, and €100,000 for the installation of photovoltaic panels for self-consumption at the EDAM of Abona, among other activities.

Furthermore, CIATF is proactively preparing to address the projects required on the Island. It has allocated approximately €634,000 for the drafting of various schemes, which include the study of regenerated waters in Abona and the utilisation of the River dam, as well as initiatives for the sanitation and purification system of Baja-Fase II Island and improvements in the Juan Fernández promotion and the final section of the general collection in Valle Guerra, amongst others.
