Santa Cruz de Tenerife 14 Feb. (Europa Press) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife aims to foster an island-wide network of regional shelters, specifically for dogs and cats, in facilities owned by the Cabildo, beginning with the establishment of a regional shelter for the northern area of Tenerife at the Field Farm.

As a result of this strategy, various projects will emerge which will be processed as island interest initiatives, as outlined in a press release from the Insular Corporation.

The Minister of the Primary Sector and Animal Welfare, Valentín González, along with the Insular Director of Strategic Projects, Alicia Leirachá, conducted a technical meeting with the Canarian Federation of Municipalities (Fecam) on Friday to discuss this initiative, aiming to collaborate with the local authorities in their responsibilities regarding animal welfare.

González indicated that despite the current efforts in animal rescue and guardianship, more action is necessary.

The councillor has revealed that the shelter, serving as an Animal Protection Centre (CPA) for dogs and cats, will provide animal capture and protection services, veterinary care, and socio-health services (including veterinary support, operating rooms, deworming, among others).

It will also include an area for shelter, recreational spaces for outdoor animals, an educational centre for volunteers and visitors, as well as additional infrastructure, among other facilities.

He also announced that the Animal Welfare Insular Council will be convened shortly, intending to inform all municipalities and animal protectors about this initiative, and to discuss and establish agreements for the management models of these resources.
