The beaches of Teresitas and Gaviotas in the capital of Tenerife have raised the yellow flag and a specific warning regarding risks associated with an “important” presence of jellyfish and specimens of blue dragons.

As per the Local Police of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the jellyfish identified at Teresitas are of the Portuguese Man O’ War species, commonly found in warm waters around the globe, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions, with stings that can be quite bothersome. These were located in the central section of the beach.

In the case of Gaviotas, the blue dragons, tiny creatures measuring between 0.5 and 3 cm in length, with flat and narrow bodies and six limbs, have been spotted. They pose a risk as the pain caused upon contact with the skin is akin to that of a sharp sting.

The City Council urges visitors at both beaches to be vigilant of these creatures, recommending that swimming be avoided.
