José Manuel Bermúdez, the mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, is urging the sub-delegation of the National Government in the province of Tenerife for an “immediate” response to the occupation of two properties in Tuscal and the aggressive, violent behaviour of the occupants.
One individual from a group of young people thathas occupiedtwo properties in the centre of Santa Cruz de Tenerife threatened several neighbours with a knife as he left one of the residences on Wednesday.
The incident took place shortly after 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, when tensions were rising among the neighbours in The Toscal. This group of young individuals, estimated to be more than a dozen according to various local residents, initially occupied a house on El Greeting Street days ago and, on Tuesday evening, another property on Ravina 2 passage. It is important to note that this area of El Toscal contains many abandoned properties, including the two that have just been occupied.

“I have called upon the sub-delegate for an immediate response because we are not just discussing the occupation of two properties, but rather a significant public safety issue,” stated José Manuel Bermúdez last night.
“The events that transpired in Tuscal have created a sense of alarm in the neighbourhood and are serious enough to necessitate a decisive reaction,” the mayor added. Bermúdez expressed concern not only over the unlawful occupation of the two properties but also regarding the demeanour of the group of individuals responsible.
“In addition to unlawfully entering two properties that belong to someone, they have threatened neighbours with a knife, confronted them, and created a situation of insecurity that is causing distress within the community, and therefore also greatly concerns the municipal government of Santa Cruz that I lead,” remarked the leader of the Chicharreros nationalists.
The day
On Wednesday night, following the confrontation between two of these occupants and the residents of El Toscal, where one displayed a knife—a scene witnessed during the day—members of Bermúdez’s team, including the councilor of the Central-Iphara District and a resident of El Toscal, Dávila purification, arrived at the vicinity of the property on Ravina passage 2. “There must be action taken, and I will do everything possible to restore peace in our municipality,” concluded José Manuel Bermúdez.
