The Adult Murgas Contest at the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has revealed its finalists for the 2025 iteration, a notable occasion underscored by the absence of the crazy devils who have been a fixture for nearly thirty years. Their absence from the event has taken many of the contest’s enthusiasts by surprise.
Following three evenings of preliminary rounds at the fairgrounds, the panel of judges has chosen the eight murgas that will grace the stage once again this Friday, February 14, starting from 20:30 hours.
Order of Performances
The murgas competing for the top interpretation award will perform in the following order:
- The Sonora
- Zeta Zetas
- Ironic
- Chaladas
- Guachinquietes
- TRASSEROS
- Bambones
- Mamluks
As is customary, the murga neither fú nor faj will perform as the opener of the finale. The gala will be hosted by Alexis Hernández and Laura Afonso, while coverage on social media will be managed by Broad Daswani.
Viewing Details
Although tickets for the final sold out just ninety minutes after becoming available, the event can be experienced live via Radio Televisión Canaria’s broadcast.
The event will be aired on its television channel, the RTVC.es website, and on Canarian radio. Additionally, performance details will be accessible through their social media platforms, their Carnival YouTube channel, and, for the first time, also via their new Twitch channel.
The Jury
The interpretation jury comprises professionals from the musical and entertainment industries, including Andrés Fulgencio Estévez, a musician and composer; Manoly Triviño, an educator and director of children’s choirs; Rocío González, a music instructor and percussionist; Marlene Meneses, a journalist and presenter of Carnavaleros events; Ivo López, a broadcaster and sports presenter; Sergio Branic, a musician and artist manager; Jéssika Rojano, a comedian; José Antonio González “El Flaco,” a member of the Murga Los Singuangos and the Rondalla Peña on Monday; and Mike Mosegué, a music producer.
Furthermore, the jury responsible for the presentation features Patricia Hodgson, a Fine Arts graduate and educator with extensive event experience; Claudia Rebeca Skog, a visual artist and finalist in the 2024 Carnival poster contest; and Laura Sánchez, a costume designer for film and shows.
The final of the Adult Murgas Contest in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is set to take place within the framework of Carnival 2025, an edition that is distinguished by the robust representation of groups from the northern part of the island.
