Santa Cruz de Tenerife 11 Feb. (Europa Press) –

The Plenary of the Canary Islands Parliament has put forth an institutional statement on the occasion of ‘World Cancer Day’, in which the Parliament’s president, Astrid Pérez, emphasised the efforts “of all associations and organisations that support and assist those affected, for their dedication and altruistic work.”

The assembly has joined in advocating for research as a key tool in combating the illness.

“It is essential to bolster oncological research through increased funding; we must strive for excellence so that the outcomes benefit the patient,” stated the president.

The Plenary was attended by representatives from the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, including its vice president, David Cova Alonso, and manager, Ana Belén Prado Prieto.

Following the morning plenary session, the deputies, along with the president, held a gathering in the honour courtyard with representatives from these organisations, expressing their backing for the efforts they undertake on the islands in the battle against this disease.

Both the assembly and the associations have conveyed a collective message of achieving a 70% survival rate for cancer by 2030, a goal that hinges on enhancing prevention, managing the disease, and supporting research initiatives.
