Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 11th Feb. (Europa Press) –

The Minister for Emergency Situations of the Canary Islands Government, Manuel Miranda, has urged on Tuesday for “calmness” and adherence to “scientific precision” regarding the potential volcanic eruption in the Cañadas del Teide, as “there are no indications in the short term.”

In answer to a query from the nationalist faction during the Plenary control session of Parliament, he acknowledged the “uncertainty” generated on the island due to a series of seismic swarms that commenced in November, which prompted the Pevolca meeting.

“We must not create panic, but we should also recognise that we cannot dismiss the risks present in volcanic islands like Tenerife, or as has recently occurred on the island of La Palma,” he clarified.

He conveyed a “message of confidence” to the scientists monitoring “the volcanic and evolving situation, who are working on risk assessment and safety plans, along with an upcoming drill that will take place in Garachico.

“The Government is committed to transparency, communication, and providing information,” he stated, specifying that “there is no threat at present,” despite the “minor deformations” observed on the surface.
