The Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, via the Canarian Housing Institute (Icavi), has accepted the free allocation of land situated in the plain of the camel and yellow Golf, within the municipality of San Miguel De Abona, in the southern region of Tenerife, intended for the construction of social housing for public promotion.
Specifically, the Ministry has announced that the Tenerife City Council has granted a parcel encompassing 3,747 square metres on Mencey Güímar street, along with another 3,747 square metres on Lucio Díaz Flores Feo Avenue.
Icavi’s director, Antonio Ortega, has emphasised that “these plots present a vital chance to respond to the escalating demand for housing on our islands.” “The development of social housing in these areas will not only alleviate the housing crisis but will also enable more Canarians and residents of the Canary Islands to secure a decent and affordable dwelling,” Ortega states.
As part of the Canary Islands Housing Plan, the Ministry is currently pursuing three initiatives.
On one hand, there are 65 units under construction in the municipality of La Orotava, the drafting of a project for 17 public promotion social homes in El Sauzal, and the creation of 11 publicly promoted homes in The jury, located in Granadilla de Abona.
Additionally, the public firm visocan is engaged in the construction of 100 homes in Santa Cruz, 7 homes in La Orotava, and 52 in Icod de los Vinos.
Utilising the EU Next Generation funds, the ICAVI has granted the drafting of projects for the execution of 60 homes in Arona, 45 in Adeje, and 24 in Guia de Isora.
Moreover, the Ministry has allocated a sum of 2,174,975.63 euros to the Municipal Housing and Services Society of San Cristóbal de la Laguna (Muvisa) to facilitate the acquisition of 56 homes.
All housing-related efforts in the Canary Islands are conducted under the +Vican initiative, aiming to “enhance and coordinate” housing policies across the archipelago.
