The island government presided over by the socialist Pedro Martin not only benefits the municipalities that your party manages in the distribution of the 16 million euros which contemplates the Cabildo’s Budget for 2022, but also does so with the investments included in the budget document for next year. This is revealed by an analysis of the investment annex of the Budget project presented by the PSOE and Citizens, as well as that of the investments of the Institute of Social and Socio-Health Action (IASS) and the Insular Council of Waters of Tenerife (Ciatf). It is found that of the 177 million euros provided for in this section, almost 100 million euros are finalist when their use is specified, and can be assigned territorially to the municipalities.
Of that amount (specifically, 98,755,032 euros), 61% falls on municipalities governed or co-governed by the PSOE, among which 61.6 million euros will be distributed. This reflects a ratio of 149.33 euros per inhabitant. The municipalities whose governments form the Canary Coalition, which add a population similar to those governed by the PSOE (413,151 of these compared to 407,311 of the nationalists) will receive only 26.7 million euros, with a ratio of 65.68 euros per person. This leads to the existence of an investment imbalance, since the municipalities managed by the Socialists receive more than double that of those governed by CC.
In the investment per population relationship, they appear as the consistories most benefited by the Cabildo in the nominal investments of the next fiscal year Vilaflor ((2,092 euros per neighbor), Fasnia (1,937), Buenavista del Norte (almost 812), El Tanque (504), La Matanza (almost 327) and Arafo (313), while the most affected are Tacoronte (0), Granadilla de Abona (5 euros per inhabitant), Santiago del Teide (7), La Guancha (almost 9), El Sauzal (23), Los Realejos (27), Garachico (37), Icod de Los Vinos (63) and Arona (almost 49). It should also be noted that Santa Cruz de Tenerife receives half the investment per capita (65) than La Laguna (123), which affects the imbalance between the main populations of the island.
Popular Party.
The municipalities most affected are those managed by the Popular Party, that is, Santiago del Teide and Los Realejos (it is the case that their mayors are the insular secretary general and president of the PP, respectively), as well as La Guancha. Between the three, 1% of the investment budget for next year will be distributed. That is, the Cabildo will distribute among these municipalities only 1.2 million euros of this chapter, which represents a ratio of 22.95 euros per inhabitant.
The rosary.
Governed by IR-Verdes and Sí se Podemos, the main investment in El Rosario is regional in nature, but the only specific investment budgeted by the Cabildo corresponds to the improvement of El Sol street –where serious traffic accidents have occurred– , included as a result of the appeal filed by the City Council before the Contentious-Administrative Court, given the refusal of the government headed by Pedro Martín to make this necessary investment.
Tacoronte.
It is striking that, as with the direct aid so questioned by several of the island’s municipal governments, Tacoronte does not appear on the Cabildo’s investment list for 2022. The mayor, Daniel Díaz (Nueva Canarias), said last Wednesday that he had been coerced by the PSOE – his government partner – not to attend the press conference where several mayors of CC, PP, Primero Arico and IR-Los Verdes expressed their discomfort over the distribution of the 16 million euros by direct designation.
Pedro Martín tacitly acknowledged, in statements to Radio Club Tenerife, that Díaz had been pressured not to publicly express his disagreement with the distribution of nominative grants: “The mayor cannot go to a CC press conference without saying anything to his partner government, which is the PSOE; he cannot ignore them. You have to report them and you have to meet and make an agreement. He cannot govern without taking into account the opinion of the group that is supporting him; those attitudes are not good, “said Martín.
