A team from the Institute of Natural Products and Agrobiology of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (IPNA-CSIC) has identified a new species of cochineal endemic to the humid regions of Tenerife. This species has been named Porcellio Aguerensis, in tribute to Aguere, the indigenous name for the lagoon where it was discovered.
