The Adeje Town Council has made a ruling on Thursday regarding the Extract Fiesta orchestrated by the Dutch artist and DJ, Moto Moto, taking place in the Natural Protected Space of La Caleta, specifically at Diego Hernández beach, on January 31.

The local government states that the event gathered approximately sixty individuals from around 17.00. “Notification was received via social media channels. This information was relayed to both the Local Police and the Civil Guard, who acted collaboratively,” it adds.

Consequently, three patrols from the Civil Guard were dispatched to the location, along with three additional units from the Local Police, to “monitor the situation and prevent potential disturbances to public order.”

Ultimately, the Adeje Town Council confirms that the Civil Guard has taken over the proceedings including the documentation of any possible infractions. “Moreover, they proceeded with the removal of improperly parked vehicles nearby,” it states.

Extract Fiesta

While the term ecstatic refers to something “that is in ecstasy, or possesses it frequently or typically”, the purpose of this gathering, as described by its organiser – who has publicly accepted full responsibility – does not include “drugs or alcohol.”

“These gatherings have a spiritual intent: to convene in the name of God, focusing on dance and connection among people of all ages. Our aim is to reclaim the joy of playing as children and allowing our inner light to shine,” states the artist.

Criticism on social media

The TENERFEÑA FRIENDS OF NATURE ASSOCIATION (ATAN) has condemned the holding of the aforementioned event at Adejera Beach, a site that has also been designated as a place of scientific interest and an area of ecological sensitivity under autonomous law 12/94.

Many users have also expressed their outrage on Instagram, where a video of the event has circulated, with remarks such as: “In the Canary Islands, it is evident that tourism prioritises over the protection of our natural spaces,” “A clear demonstration of the little regard that the Cabildo de Tenerife has for the protected natural spaces of the island,” and “They would have evicted and fined us.”
