Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 6 Feb. (Europa Press) –

The Minister for Tourism of the Canary Islands Government, Jessica de León, has urged for “consensus” within Parliament so that all seven parties, “free from political divisions”, can open negotiations and enhance the text with the aim of serving the “common interest” of the archipelago.

During a press conference to mark the commencement of the processing of the new regulation, she defended the “loyalty” of the government by consistently keeping the groups updated on the progress of the regulation. However, she expressed regret, possibly “by oversight”, that they did not attend the recent meeting or present alternative suggestions.

Regarding holiday rentals, Ascav acknowledged that it is “extremely challenging to maintain a loyal relationship” when they have opted to “filter” details of the draft or have issued press releases during discussions with the Executive.

“Our focus has simply been on reading criticisms directed at the Ministry and other matters unrelated to the draft legislation,” she added.
