Santa Cruz de Tenerife now boasts the new stage that will host the competitions and events of the Carnival 2025 at the Tenerife fairground, commencing from Friday, February 7 with the initial phase of children’s murgas.

The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, visited the venue today, which will feature a grand design centred around Africa, conceived by Nareme Melián, returning once more following the previous Carnival’s success. The design aims to honour the culture and essence of the African continent.

Nareme himself describes the stage as “avant-garde and conceptual”, presenting 2025 with some of the most artisanal and intricately detailed scenographies reminiscent of previous Carnivals. It will showcase two magnificent trees reflecting the pottery and the bond Africans have with the Earth, side waterfalls symbolising the significance of water in their culture, cave dwellings that connect the Canary Islands with Africa, and the grand central feature—an entrance to a village representing a tree house, all aimed at evoking the symbolism of the continent for the designer.

The area provides a scenic surface of 1,689 square metres, allowing ample space for performers and artists.

The screens will cover a total area of 140 square metres, distributed between the central sun depicted in the design and the sides. Thus, with 260 square metres less than in the previous edition’s setup, the focus shifts back to a more artisanal and theatrical presentation that has defined the event for many years, moving away from the technological approach of recent editions.
